Wi.Tec-Sensorik · The Gas Measurement Company
Alain Barillet, Gerhard Wiegleb and Sebastian Wiegleb for Wi.Tec-Sensorik GmbH had the opportunity to briefly present modern process gas analysis based on innovative NDIR/NDUV multisensor technology at the 18th Autumn Colloquium Process Analytics from 27-29.11.2023, Krefeld (Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences).
Photometric gas sensors have been used successfully in process measurement technology for over 80 years. While in the early days only one gas component could be detected, this technology developed into a multi-gas analysis (1). By using modern optical components such as MEMS radiation sources (IR), UV LEDs and highly integrated UV and IR detectors, the entire spectral range from 200 nm to 12 µm can now be used seamlessly for high-precision gas analysis. The OEM series ULTRA.sens® (NDUV) is suitable for gas analysis of NO, NO₂, NOₓ, SO₂, Cl₂, CS₂, ClO₂, H₂S and O₃, while the OEM series INFRA.sens® (NDIR) is suitable for gas analysis of CO, CO₂, CH₄, CₙHₘ, N₂O, H₂O, CF₄ and SF₆. With the help of powerful microcontrollers, temperature errors, printing errors, ageing effects, drifts etc. can be compensated for in the us evaluation electronics.
Cross-sensitivities due to interfering gases can also be taken into account. The measuring ranges are optimized by different cuvette lengths (2mm-250mm) and can range from ppm to 100 vol%. For use in corrosive gases, cuvettes made of resistant material are used, which can also be combined with stainless steel piping. The two NDIR and NDUV technologies can also be integrated into one measuring unit (KOMBI.sens). A total of up to 6 gases can be detected in one module with this combination. External data communication takes place via RS232, CAN, CANopen, MODBUS-RTU or analog voltage outputs.
